OUR STANDARDS

Go Above and Beyond

As a brand founded by parents, we have always been purposeful to formulate products and source ingredients that we feel good about giving to our own families. From the very beginning, safety and quality have been at the core of our product development. We work closely with our supplier partners to ensure that each product we offer meets our rigorous standards.

We start with sourcing ingredients that are naturally lower in heavy metals, and creating recipes that are free from artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners. We have been a long time partner of the Clean Label Project, to voluntarily certify that our Little Brainiac products are free from chemicals of concern such as industrial environmental toxins and contaminants, such as heavy metals, pesticide residues, and plasticizers, because you should expect nothing less.

It is our belief that parents should feel confident about giving their families a wide variety of healthy whole foods as well as high quality snack options to support brain health and development. And we work hard to earn your trust everyday.

Heavy Metals Statement for Little Brainiac:

At Brainiac Foods we are committed to making sure our products are both nutritious and safe for your little ones.

It’s important to know that heavy metals naturally exist in healthy whole foods like root and leafy vegetables. We welcome AB899 as it creates greater transparency for families and the food industry to ensure that the foods we feed our kids meet the highest standards.

At Brainiac, in addition to posting the results of our own testing, we will continue to go above and beyond and be guided by the Clean Label Project standards.

Below, we’ve answered some common questions about heavy metals and the proactive steps we are taking to provide safe and delicious products.

FAQ

How does Brainiac reduce heavy metals?

While heavy metals are naturally present in fruits, vegetables, and grains, we work with trusted suppliers who are focused on reducing heavy metals in ingredients and will meet our testing limits. We also take great time and care in formulating our products to minimize the presence of heavy metals which sometimes means not using an ingredient known to have higher heavy metal amounts.

How do we ensure a safe product?

Each lot of product produced must pass rigorous quality and safety testing prior to being sold, that includes heavy metals. Our heavy metals testing is conducted by ISO-accredited labs, which means they adhere to international standards to ensure results are accurate.

Additionally, our Little Brainiac product line is Clean Label Project Certified. To achieve this certification our products are tested randomly by Clean Label Project for hundreds of contaminants, included heavy metals and must pass the Clean Label Project’s high standards.

Should I stop feeding my children certain ingredients that are commonly associated with having heavy metals?

The FDA does not recommend that certain foods should not be given to children as this could lead to nutrient deficiencies. The American Academy of Pediatrics supports this and advises giving children a variety of foods. To learn more about reducing exposure, visit the American Academy of Pediatrics.

What are heavy metals and why are they in food?

Heavy metals like lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury are naturally in the environment. Foods such as fruit, vegetable and grains can absorb these elements from the soil, water and air as they grow. The FDA states that products with these foods cannot completely avoid heavy metals, so we formulate our products to reduce the levels and test each lot of product produced to verify it meets our consumers expectations.
